Hvor godt kender du Danmark?

Prepare for the Danish Citizenship Test (Indfodsretsprøven 2025)

If you plan to apply for Danish citizenship (statsborgerskab), you must pass the Indfodsretsprøven, also known as the Danish citizenship test.
The Indfodsretsprøven 2025 evaluates your knowledge of Danish society, culture, history, democracy, and core values. It is the official indfødsret test required by the Danish Ministry of Immigration and Integration.

This article explains everything you need to know about the test format, registration, identification requirements, and how to prepare effectively using both official and supplementary materials.

What is the Indfodsretsprøven?

The Indfodsretsprøven (Citizenship Test) is a written exam consisting of 45 multiple-choice questions.
It measures your understanding of Danish society and the values that shape daily life in Denmark.

Here’s the structure of the test:

35 questions are based on the official study material (lærematerialet) covering Danish history, democracy, economy, international relations, and culture.

5 questions concern current events, usually significant political, cultural, or social topics from the six months before the exam.

5 questions are about Danish values – for example, freedom of speech, equality between men and women, and the relationship between religion and law.

To pass the citizenship test, you must answer at least 36 out of 45 questions correctly, including at least 4 of the 5 value-based questions.

The test lasts 45 minutes. It is written on paper, and no aids or materials (such as phones, notes, or dictionaries) are allowed.

Who Can Take the Test?

Anyone who has applied or intends to apply for Danish citizenship (indfødsret) can register for the Indfodsretsprøven.
It is open to all adult applicants, regardless of how long they have lived in Denmark, as long as they meet the other requirements for citizenship.
